Announcement of the Dr. Sven Paulin
Research Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Imaging 2019


The Cardiothoracic Imaging Section of the Radiology Department at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) and Harvard Medical School is proud to announce the opening of the “Dr. Sven Paulin Research Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Imaging”. This fellowship is a paid research position opened each year to national and international MDs or MD-PhDs with a specific interest in cardiothoracic imaging. The 2019 fellowship covers the one year period (non- extendable) from January 2nd, 2019 to December 31st, 2019. Compensation of the fellow will be at a competitive rate. The fellow will work under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Cardiothoracic Imaging Section of the Department of Radiology at BIDMC.

The research topic of the fellowship must focus on the imaging of cardio-pulmonary interactions in health and disease. Qualified topics include but are not limited to: pulmonary hypertension in interstitial lung disease, cardiac and pulmonary implications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary imaging biomarkers for determining outcome of cardiac interventions, and the development of novel imaging and post-processing techniques for imaging the diseases listed above.

Potential candidates for the fellowship should submit a detailed research proposal, with background, research questions, specific aims, references, as well as a time plan for the proposed project. The overall length of the proposal should not exceed 4-5 pages. All proposals should be accompanied by a formal application letter and a current Curriculum Vitae. Up to three recommendation letters are desirable.

Candidate selection will be based on the scientific merit and potential of the submitted applications. Selection will be performed by a Committee that includes members of the Department of Radiology at BIDMC, as well as members from other BIDMC Departments. Exterior experts might also be consulted, if required by the content of the submitted research proposals. The Committee is chaired by the Chief of the Cardiothoracic Imaging Section of the Department of Radiology at BIDMC. Proposals should be submitted by September 14th, 2018.
